When CVG hosted a quick interview probing the main man at Bioware; Dr Ray Muzyka, about what steps the company plan to take next, details of a possible MMO game were revealed. I personally am unsure of any links between the Mass Effect Universe and the MMO reveal, but with the Mass Effect franchise being stronger than ever, there’s always a possibility.
The Doctor did make sure everyone is aware that Bioware are dedicated to their upcoming title Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is great news for the players excited for the game, before commenting on how committed the development team is to bring new and improved high quality content throughout the products’ lifespan.
He mentioned exploring new types of online play, which leads to believe an expansion of one of their currently popular titles, stating “We’re obviously looking at Mass Effect, Dragon Age they’re epic franchises, and we have more things planned in the future. Mass Effect 3 is the beginning of a Galactic war. The future’s bright.”
So great news for Mass Effect fans, at least we all know it won’t just be a one hit wonder trilogy, and Bioware will endeavor to support it as long as it carries on being arguably top of the throne in the Action RPG genre.
Mass Effect 3 launches on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in March next year, with SW:TOR releasing towards the end of this year.
Muzyka did clarify that TOR would be the main focus of the MMO development team for some time, but one can only speculate as to how “bright” the future really is. Going off the success of both Mass Effect 1 and 2, and with the promising demonstration of Mass Effect 3 at E3, The series is looking better than ever, and I am positive the Mass Effect universe will be a Galaxy I’ll be returning to a few more times.
