When we first saw the gameplay trailers for Anthem, we knew that the game had incredible potential. Originally teased at E3 in 2014, the title was supposed to be released this year. However, it looks like we might have to wait another year in order to play it. The online co-op shooter mainly impressed with its stunning 4K visuals and open-world setting. We all know how difficult it can be to create a truly amazing open-world game. Unsurprisingly, recent reports indicate that the original Fall 2018 release date was “never realistic.” While not directly related, the overall failure of Mass Effect: Andromeda somehow ties into all of this.
Mass Effect: Andromeda was supposed to be a masterpiece. Instead, it received mixed or average reviews from gamers and critics alike. This caused EA to fold Bioware Montreal into the EA Motive Studio. BioWare still has some studios in Edmonton and Austin, but if Anthem fails to deliver, these studios could end up with the same fate. From what we’ve seen so far, Anthem will also feature a loot box system similar to Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The microtransaction system also received some bad press, and hopefully, BioWare will take notice. It’s entirely possible that Anthem’s microtransactions will only affect cosmetic items.
At the time of writing, EA has not confirmed Anthem’s delay for 2019. However, we will keep you posted as we find out more.
