Bitcoin Now Accepted by Microsoft for Xbox Live and Windows Apps Purchases

Digital currency Bitcoin is now being accepted by Microsoft to pay for some of its online services. Bitcoin can be used on the Xbox and Windows stores, to purchase content such as games, videos, and music, through a user’s Microsoft account. Services like Office 365 are not currently available for purchase via Bitcoin.

The move has made Microsoft the first major tech company to accept Bitcoin, which could be seen as a huge step toward legitimising the controversial currency. Bitcoin transactions through Microsoft are currently limited to the US, and those purchases cannot be refunded, but Bitcoin is bound to experience a massive boost from such high-profile support.
