Final Thoughts

Pricing

In the USA the BitFenix Fury 750G can be had for around $175 on Amazon and $180 on Newegg. In the UK it can be had for £120 at Overclockers. BitFenix provide a 5 year warranty with this power supply.

Conclusion

My opinion about the BitFenix Fury 750G after testing the power supply is not as good as I initially thought it would be. When I first saw the power supply I thought it was going to be fantastic. BitFenix have done something really cool with the power supply by adding custom sleeved cables and teaming up with the reputable OEM FSP to build a high quality platform. Testing reveals that the platform is not as strong as it should be and that there is much room for improvement. This power supply scored well on PFC, efficiency, voltage regulation on most rails and on the quality of the cables and number of connectors. It also benefits from being one of the best looking power supplies on the market – the attention to detail on the styling and design is excellent.

However, once we start talking about ripple suppression, noise and voltage regulation on some of the minor rails things start to go downhill. BitFenix are using FSP’s fairly lacklustre CM Aurum Gold platform. As a result ripple suppression is average at best and the voltage regulation on the minus 12 volt rail was terrible. Regulation on the other rails was close to the 2% threshold that I’d consider good but actually involved a bit of drooping under higher loads, especially on the 3.3 volt rail. Voltage regulation and ripple suppression are still good, but for the price of this unit the standards are not high enough. BitFenix could have chosen from any number of higher quality platforms, but they didn’t. Why? Well that’s anyone’s guess but my guess is cost and finding an OEM willing to work to BitFenix’s strict cable and styling requirements. BitFenix make great fans, yet with this power supply we get a bog standard 120mm fan with an overly aggressive fan profile that is totally out of place for this unit. It doesn’t need to operate that loudly especially given it’s efficiency. My advice to BitFenix would be to equip one of their own fans and keep it much quieter.

It is by no means a bad power supply. It probably works out cheaper to buy this unit than it does to buy a 750W Gold rated power supply with a custom sleeved cable kit. On that basis the BitFenix Fury 750G merits further consideration if custom sleeved cables matter to you. However, I can’t see past the fairly average nature of the platform used and its high noise output. I think I would have preferred a slightly more expensive power supply that offered better performance and quieter operation. If you’re going to make a niche enthusiast product you might as well make it the best you can. Super Flower seem to be smashing the high end power supply market right now so maybe BitFenix should consider working with them next time.

Pros

  • Custom sleeved cables
  • High efficiency and PFC
  • Solid voltage regulation on major rails
  • 5 year warranty

Cons

  • Average ripple suppression
  • Expensive (you pay a hefty premium for the custom sleeved cables)
  • Very loud operation

“The Fury 750G is BitFenix’s first foray into the power supply market and armed with custom sleeved cables and a unique design the Fury 750G stands out from the competition from a feature standpoint.”
