Case manufacturer BitFenix is announcing a new power supply series featuring 80-Plus Gold certification called the Formula Gold series. It uses a custom 2oz pure copper and double layer PCB with an efficiency of up to 90+ at a 40% to 60% load. It uses a dedicated multi-rail design with advanced voltage switching circuit. The PSU also features 100% Japanese capacitors and additional over current protection on all main +12V rails.
The BitFenix Formula Gold series is also noticeably compact at only 140mm x 150mm x 86mm. It is available in capacities ranging from 450W to 750W in 100W increments with similar enclosure sizes. All the cables are non-modular. However, they are all flat black cables with the exception of the 24-pin which has braided sleeve covering. The cables are also sufficiently long, even for full-tower cases. The 24-pin and the 8-pin CPU cables for example, are 600mm and 650mm long respectively.
A single fluid dynamic bearing 120mm fan provides active cooling. It is designed to operate silently and starts at 3.2V running under 500rpm under the majority of the PSU operation. In fact, on the 450W model which does not require extra cooling, it stays constantly under a 4V voltage load. Even on the 750W model, the fan only starts to operate beyond 500 rpm after 70% load. It actually maxes at 1092rpm which is just around 6V at 100% load.
