BitFenix launches the mother of all Shinobi’s

Having proved itself so many times, BitFenix’s Shinobi has made been made in a new model that can only be described as the mother of all Shinobi’s; the Shinobi XL.

“Since the introduction of our original Shinobi, fans have been writing in and posting in forums asking for a larger version,” says BitFenix Product Manager David Jarlestedt. “Boasting all new features and nearly limitless flexibility for modders and water cooling enthusiasts alike, Shinobi XL is a lot more than just a size update – it’s a complete revamp.”

While the XL variant of the Shinobi looks the same on the outside, the inside will blow your mind. Externally equivalent to the first Shinobi, the meshed fan vents, brushed aluminum logo and even the signature BitFenix SofTouch surface treatment have been reproduced faithfully to its original.

As suggested by the name, this new model is a XL version, measuring 570 x 245 x 557 mm (HxWxD), this ATX full-tower can house motherboards from mini-ITX to XL-ATX with nine expansion slots for the most extreme setups.

The front panel presents a surprise; four SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports and a BitFenix SuperCharge port, offering up to 2.5A of current to recharge mobile devices quick and easy.

The Shinobi XL is all about making a freezer out of a simple case, so to speak. If you’re a more ‘traditional’ overclocker and prefer air as your cooling solution, this chassis comes pre-installed with two 230 mm and one 120 mm Spectre fans, while additional fans can also be added; up to three 230 mm, one 140 mm, or nine 120 mm fans will ensure an unparalleled airflow.

For those more extreme and high tech, you can go full liquid cooling; thanks to the removable hard disk rack, a whole host of radiators can be installed, a 360 mm on the top, a 360 mm on the front or a 240 mm on the bottom, all of which without the need to mod anything, they’re supported right out of the box.

Everything has been made easy for the users to install and customize their system; the motherboard tray is equipped with a large cut-out for easy access to your CPU cooler, while a a nice amount of smaller cut-out holes fitted with grommets have been made available for cable management. In order to the free the most space out of the airflow’s way, a whopping 3cm of free space is provided behind the motherboard tray.

The 5.25″ drive bays come included with adapters to allow for HDD/SSD installation or for smaller drives such as card readers etc.

Anti-vibration pads have been placed where the PSU would sit in order to eliminate any vibrations that might transfer to the case, and a large array of removable dust filters have been placed on all air intakes, making cleaning a hassle-free task.

The BitFenix Shinobi XL will make its entry beginning March 2012 for an estimated price of €139/$149.
