BitFenix Ronin Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

The Ronin is a really fun look chassis and while there are no truly major innovations here, it is still nice to see that BitFenix have gone the distance to try do something a little different from the rest of the market. OK I have to admit the Stealth Cover is a little pointless, but it is also effective in that it does hide some of the more unsightly sections of the chassis, but I can’t help but think that a smaller side panel window would in effect do the same job.

Small window vs stealth cover is one thing, but the advantage is that you get the visual style of the large window and the illusion of a super clean build behind it. The other solution would be to remove the support bar for the Stealth Cover, removing the cover completely, this would give you a traditional side panel window view, obviously not using the full potential of the chassis features, but it is nice to have more than one option.

The case isn’t the mose expansive ever, but it will still hold a multi-GPU setup with relative ease. We had an easy time fitting the fairly large Corsair H100i water cooler in the top and with modular HDD bays you shouldn’t a problem fitting even the biggest GPU’s on the market into this case.

Cable management is really good and more than enough to make for a clean looking build, but the real gem here is the exterior and the SofTouch finish really sells this case to me. It stands out a little but still manages to be quite and professional looking at the same time and I can see it appealing to a wider market of both gamers and professionals. The case would look great in a home office as much as it would at a LAN gaming event.

The price is spot on too and while I would love it to be a little cheaper (because who doesn’t like a bargain!) it is still competitively prices against rival brands. The Ronin has a good set of specifications, high build quality and some unique style points that go a long way to justifying the £70 price tag.

Pros

  • The SofTouch finish and Steal Cover are nice features that standout from the competition.
  • Build quality is robust throughout.
  • Fully removable HDD bays are always welcome.
  • Support for water cooling and extra fans, but I’m really glad BitFenix remembered to include an extra dust filter.
  • Good cable management throughout.

Cons

  • Top panel USB ports looked a little rough around the edges.
  • The Stealth Cover can be a little tough to remove at times.

“I was a little lost on what award I should give this case, but Bang For Buck does seem the best fit and even though it’s around £70, I think you get a great return for your investment. It’s SofTouch finish and Stealth Cover give a pre-modded look and feel, it stands out among the crowd and I think it’s a great price for something that is as unique as the Ronin.”
