Bitsnoop Torrent Site Shut its Doors For Good

Bitsnoop has been around for almost a decade, but no more. Late in the day on the 31st of March, the site was changed to a goodbye message and a redirect.

The site was founded back in 2008, nearly a decade ago, and it quickly grew to one of the largest torrent sites on the net. It started with roughly a million torrents and continued to grow into almost 24 million as last week. But no more.

It is currently unknown why the site has shut and the company didn’t respond to TorrentFreak’s inquire. So all we know for sure is that the site is down. While the news appeared around April the first, it is no April’s Fool joke. The site remains down.

There has been a lot of pressure on Torrent sites lately and Bitsnoop is also one of the many blocked Torrent sites in the UK and other countries. They might have been threatened to shut down, they might have lost too much traffic to be profitable due to site blocks, or they might just have ended it all before worse would happen. Your guess is as good as ours.

Now the site simply features a goodbye message which reads “So long! It’s been a nice ride, but all things eventually come to an end.”

All the data hasn’t been lost tho. The site has shared all its data with another Torrent search engine that’s relatively new to the market: Zoogle. Eventually, Zoogle will index all this data and add it to their database for continued access. Zoogle is a pretty new to the market as its only been around for about a year, but they’re growing strong.

The message ends with a “Thank you. We love you. We will miss you. Keep being awesome.” which has been signed “Your friendly robots and oppressed meatbags of Bitsnoop, 2008-2017.”
