Black Mirror Teases Season 4 With New Trailer

Charlie Booker’s Black Mirror will be back on Netflix for season 4. For now however, Netflix has released a short teaser of one of the episodes called “Arkangel”. Although The Twilight Zone spawned movies, remakes and copycats, Black Mirror has seemingly earned the distinction of being its true spiritual successor. At least in terms of having is hand on the pulse of social anxieties. Plus, every episode is quite brilliant and stands on its own instead of just rehashing previous Twilight Zone stories like other shows do.

The short teaser revolves around parenting in the modern world. Parenting is far from easy, especially with the constant bombardment of media. And in usual Black Mirror fashion, technology claims to have a solution, or so it seems. The episode Arkangel has the tagline ‘the key to good parenting is control’. As the trailer shows, the mother resorts to using a neural implant to keep track of her daughter after a short scare. Obviously, things are only going to get worse from there and the device most likely comes with several side effects. Arkangel is directed by Jodie Foster who has two young children of her own, so she draws directly from her own anxieties as a mother.

Upcoming Season 4 Episodes

Arkangel is just the second episode of season 4. Other episodes in this season include:

  • Crocodile – Set in a world where people’s memories are not private. Unlike season one’s ‘The Entire History of You’, these are memories and not recordings, so it does not always hold up in terms of detail accuracy.
  • Hang the DJ – This is lighter in tone and more comedic in comparison to other Black Mirror episodes. It will revolve around themes of dating and sex.
  • USS Calister – This appears to be a Star Trek homage of some sort and according to Booker, it is very big and ambitious.
  • Metalhead – Not much details are available about this episode other than it is entirely in black and white.
  • Black Musem – Another ambitious episode, which is going to be three stories in one, assembled as a visual portmanteau.

There is no announced release date yet for Black Mirror season 4.
