Black Myth: Wukong, an anticipated action-adventure title by Game Science, will have a physical release without a disc. Instead, players purchasing the physical edition will receive a code for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
Game Science cited distribution issues as the main reason for this decision. The studio’s inexperience with global logistics and offline resources has caused difficulties in producing and distributing physical discs. In an FAQ on their official website, the developers explained that they are working on resolving these issues and may offer physical discs in the future.
The Deluxe Edition of Black Myth: Wukong is priced at $169, while the Collector’s Edition costs $399. Both editions come with various goodies, including a SteelCase. The Collector’s Edition also includes a Confront Destiny figure of the game’s protagonist.
Black Myth: Wukong is set for release on August 20 for PC and PS5. However, the Xbox Series X/S version has been delayed for further optimization. Despite these setbacks, the excitement around the game remains high, especially as it is the most wish-listed game on Steam.
The decision to exclude physical discs from the initial release highlights the challenges new developers face when handling AAA title logistics.
