Black Ops 6 Tested on Consoles by Digital Foundry; Struggles on PS4 and Xbox One

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the latest game to be reviewed by Digital Foundry, who tested all the PlayStation and Xbox console versions of Activision Blizzard’s first-person shooter. The verdict is mostly positive for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, but performance on older consoles is less impressive, with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X doing slightly better but still with some issues.

Performance on Current-Gen Consoles

Starting with the current-gen consoles, on PS5 and Xbox Series X, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 runs at a dynamic resolution of 2160p with a target of 60fps, which it maintains most of the time, with only minor dips, mostly on the Series X. On Series S, the dynamic resolution is set to 1440p, but it shows more drops between 50 and 60fps, and sometimes even falls into the 40fps range.

When using the 120Hz mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the target resolution stays the same, but dynamic scaling is more aggressive to keep performance high. In this mode, the frame rate varies a lot depending on what’s happening on the screen, averaging around 90 fps, but it can dip to 60 – 70 fps and, in calmer scenes, go over 100 fps. Series S also supports this mode, but its performance is lower than Series X, with drops even below 60 fps.

Poor Performance on Last-Gen Consoles

As mentioned, the results on older consoles are not as good. Xbox One has the worst performance, with a dynamic resolution of 900p and dips to around 20 fps. The PS4 is a bit better, reaching a dynamic resolution of 1080p with frame rates between 45 – 60 fps.

However, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X perform the best among older consoles, reaching a dynamic resolution of 1512p and averaging 60 fps, though occasional drops and stutters still happen, especially on the One X, which generally shows fewer frames.
