The company in charge of manufacturing the BlackBerry PlayBook RIM (Research In Motion) has decided to abandon production of the Wi-Fi Playbook stating that sales have been very weak compared to its main competitor in the iPad and it is more important to focus on the development and improvement of the BlackBerry PlayBook so the launch of the 3G/4G PlayBook’s are more successful.
Meanwhile, the iPad sold over 25 million units in the first half of 2011 compounding a miserable year for the Wi-Fi BlackBerry PlayBook and the PlayBook in general. RIM is transfering a lot of its attention to further developing the “Play Book QNX” operating system as the company plans to start launching mobile phones and handsets next year which will utilise this operating system, so if anything comes from the failure of the PlayBook RIM wants it to be a successful Operating System.
