Blizzard CEO Talks Warcraft IV and Mobile Gaming

Warcraft IV

Warcraft is big business, sure it’s had its ups and downs, but you can’t argue with its long-term staying power. Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime isn’t letting up on the franchise anytime soon either, saying that he “would love to ee Warcraft IV at some point” and that mobile gaming represents “a  huge opportunity”.

“We love RTS games but right now our focus is still continuing to evolve StarCraft II – and to the extent that MOBA games are RTS – continue supporting and evolving Heroes of the Storm. I love that there is so much passion and interest around Warcraft IV. I would love to see Warcraft IV at some point in the future, but that is not our current focus.”

They’ve already stated that they’ve no plans to remaster the original games, and it’s obvious that StarCraft II and Heroes of the Storm are their current focus, but at least they’re not completely dismissing Warcraft IV for the future.

“People haven’t really figured out what the killer app for mobile is. I think there’s a huge opportunity there. We certainly have so many people with these powerful gaming devices in their pockets that they are walking around with every day. I feel like there’s a lot of unexplored ground still.”

Who knows what they’ll cook up for the mobile market, sure they’ve got Hearthstone, but even that doesn’t feel like the killer hit they’re looking for. Warcraft Go anyone?
