Bloodhound SSC Set to Attempt Landspeed Record Following Successful Tests

Bloodhound Hopes To Smash Land Speed Record

The British developed Bloodhound SSC is a very exciting proposition in the realms of land speed enthusiasts. The currently land speed record is set at 763mph. The Bloodhound SSC is not looking to beat that, it’s looking to destroy it.

The car itself is a fantastic marriage of both jet and traditional engineering. With private testing successful, the speed car is set for 2 public test runs before an official attempt is made.

We have been monitoring the car quite heavily since it’s development began. We even reported on the development and testing of a parachute capable of stopping the car back in 2015.

If successful, the Bloodhound SSC is hoping to achieve a land speed record of over 1,000mph. a 25% increase on the current record.

How will it achieve 1,000mph?

Firstly, the car will use a Typhoon Jet Engine to get up to a ‘cruising speed’ of circa 350mph. From there a massive Jaguar V8 engine and a rocket will kick in to hopefully deliver the necessary punch. As a Jaguar owner, it brings a tear to my eye.

Newquay Airport in Cornwall this week will be the grounds of the public testing, however, don’t expect to be blown away by the speed. The report via SkyNews suggests that the tests will solely be for components rather than.

It is anticipated that the record attempt will be made before the end of November. This would be significant as being just a few weeks over the 20-year anniversary of the Thrust SSC 2’s record in 1997.

For more details on the car, check out our post outlining the preliminary testing. They are as you would expect highly impressive and make achieving 1,000mph on land a truly realistic proposition.

We at eTeknix wish the team behind the Bloodhound SSC every success!
