BMW Wants to Build Intelligent Autonomous Vehicles in the Future

Ok, so maybe BMW is not the most renowned electric car manufacturer right now, but that doesn’t mean that the company isn’t planning to invest more in this business, which is likely to become very competitive in the future. Recent reports suggest that the German automaker is planning to put together a research and development team that would include both experts in artificial intelligence and highly skilled engineers. Obviously, the project will rely on some heavy hiring in order to achieve its goals, especially since the company wants to achieve a software engineer count up to a 50:50 spread when compared to the rest of its employees.

Sadly, since there aren’t enough qualified individuals in Germany that could fill these roles, BMW is looking to partner up with other firms in order to occupy these positions. BMW wants to create “the most intelligent car,” and it’s probably safe to assume that we’re talking about an autonomous vehicle. This initiative will only be successful if the company brings in people versed at working with cloud computing and storage outfits, but it’s also worth keeping in mind that those who will partner up with BMW could end up benefiting greatly as well. That’s because the automaker plans to license its electric drivetrains to manufacturers that wouldn’t be able to develop their own – a sound strategy that could potentially bring in a healthy income stream.
