When it comes to Pokemon Go, we have heard of all sorts of crazy accidents and incidents. There have been people falling off cliffs, falling into harbours, running into traffic, and much more as well as criminal minded people abusing rare spawn locations to rob unsuspecting players going to a catch. Now it looks like there has been a first death happening to someone playing Pokemon Go.
Now it has to be said right away that the death in itself isn’t related to the game, the poor boy was shot, but it did happen while he was playing Pokemon Go. According to the mother of the victim, the 18-year old boy received a message from his cousin after he already had gone to bed, telling him to come out and catch this Pokemon. A little later as they two were walking alongside a railway line, they were attacked by unknown gunmen.
“I don’t know why my son left the house,” the mother said. “He was already in bed when his cousin sent him a message asking him to go out and download a game a few blocks from the house.”
The whole thing happened in the city of Chiquimula, 120 miles from the Guatemala capital in South America. The country is known for its drug mafia that among other things have a large export of Cocaine to the US and generally isn’t considered one of the safest locations. So there is a chance that the two kids just were unlucky, running into a trade that they shouldn’t have seen and that with their running cellphones in their hands. That might have been enough for the criminals to fire the 20 or more bullets in the direction of the unsuspecting teens. Maybe it was an initiation thing, maybe it was just purely unlucky. But it is sad that a life ended that early.
This appears to be the first death officially related to the Pokemon Go game, let us just hope that it will be the last one.
