Temperatures


Measuring temperatures is all about being consistent therefore we keep a steady eye on monitoring the ambient room temperature to make sure that it stays the same. While this is constantly being monitored, we measure the idle temperature of the card using HWMonitor over a 15 minute period. Once this has been recorded, we set FurMark into motion for 15 minutes and record the results again.

When we come to record the running temperatures of the processor and graphics card, we do run into a slight problem. As noted when Ryan took a closer look at AMD’s Kaveri APU’s not too long ago, there is an inherent fault between the motherboard and chip when reading the core temperatures. This results in false readings being given and consequently we don’t actually know how hot things are running. Fortunately the graphics card does give us a thermal readout with a cool idle temperature of just over 30c and a full load temp of 65c.
