Buffalo Launches LinkStation 520DN

Buffalo has been in the storage field for many years which is a testament to their quality and the loyalty of their customers – which mainly is due to their ease of use right out of the box. Now the company has announced the availability of their latest NAS device called the LinkStation 520DN. The LinkStation 520DN is a customisable NAS solution designed to serve as a hub for the modern family’s connected home – just as most NAS devices are.

The two key features for this device are media and backup. The LinkStation 520DN is DLNA compatible for easy streaming to smart TVs and HiFi systems and it is powerful enough to do so to multiple devices simultaneously while backing up multiple PCs at the same time.

“We are excited to introduce the Buffalo LS520DN as a way for consumers to organise and protect their digital life,” said Arthur Traub, Director of Strategic Accounts at Buffalo Americas. “This new product allows home users to easily store, organise, access, stream and protect all their digital assets. We provide NAS grade disk drives for always-on performance in the LS520DN to ensure ease of use and reliability. And, as with all our Buffalo products, if a customer needs any help they simply need to contact our 24/7 US-based customer support team.”

As mentioned above, one of Buffalo’s strength is the out-of-box usage and that is because the units come with hard drives installed. The LinkStation 520DN is available in 3 different capacity choices: 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB – all in RAID1 setups for redundancy and peace of mind.

While I don’t have any personal experience with Buffalo’s user interface, they’re said to be easy to use and they’re compatible with Mac OS systems too, including Time Machine backups. You can also use the system for headless downloads via BitTorrent.

The 2TB model comes with an MSRP of $279.99, the 4TB has an MSRP of $349.99, and the 8TB version has an MSRP of $449.99 – making them affordable solutions.
