Buffalo is currently getting its latest Blu-ray writer/reader “BRXL-PCW6U2-BK” ready, supporting the latest format BDXL .
Connecting through a USB 2.0 port, the drive is capable of writing and reading the BDXL format, both the 3-layer and the 4-layer allowing for the respective capacities of 100GB and 128GB.
The write speeds are up to 4x for the BDXL, 6x fot BD-R, both single and dual layer, and 2x for BD-RE. As for the other formats, up to 8x for DVD-R/+R/+RW, 6x for DVD-R DL/+R DL/-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, 24x for CD-R and 16x for CD-RW.
As you can see, not only is the device small, measuring 145 x19 x 153 mm and weighting only 340g, it comes with a dual USB connection, one for the power and one for data transfer, and can be both folded back into the drive for easy transport and storage.
All that is known is that it will hit the Japanese market first, but as for other countries’ release, no information has been provided, although for the price we’re expecting something around $200.
