Buffalo have released a new MiniStation external hard disk drive. Sizing in at an impressive 750GB this device is sure to give you plenty of storage capabilities. The price tag of $138 is quite fair too, the drive looks very sleek, compact and well designed. It is also available in a choice of glossy black or glossy white. Measuring in at just 77 x 14 x 114 mm and weighing just 165g this drive is perfect for on-the-go mobile storage. Buffalo are also backing these external hard drives up with a 1 year warranty. Bundled software includes data backup, data encryption and Buffalo’s Eco manager power saving program.
However, we are still trying to work out why Buffalo would go ahead and make this drive only USB 2.0. This essentially means transfer speeds are limited to at best 30mb/s and they have added no option for even SATA II based eSATA which is quite disappointing, for $138 you would expect eSATA to compensate for the lack of USB 3.0. But there is clearly a market for this type of product and for those with only access to USB 2.0 such as laptop owners this drive is probably quite a good buy.
