Bulkhead Interactive has released Battalion 1944; a WW2 themed first person shooter, which comes as a surprise considering that the company’s previous titles were Pneuma: Breath of Life and The Turing Test, both first-person puzzlers. The game itself was funded through Kickstarter because, as Howard Philpott, who is the creative producer of Battalion 1944, said in his interview, they were unable to fund the project themselves.
“Our past two games were first person puzzlers. We enjoyed making them but the real game we wanted to make was an FPS.”
About ten years ago, the gaming market was oversaturated with WW2-inspired games, but in our current days, Battalion 1944 feels like a breath of fresh air. Titles like Call of duty, Medal of Honor, Brothers in Arms etc., all followed pretty much the same recipe, so the gaming companies had to step up and give the gaming community something different. Battalion 1944 is now addressed to nostalgic players who want to enjoy some WW2 action. It will not be easy for Battalion 1944 to achieve success, as it has to go toe-to-toe with Call of Duty 2, which is on the top of the food chain when it comes to WW2 gameplay.
