Call of Duty MW III is Just Another COD

I was genuinely pretty excited to play Modern Warfare III, party because I got the game given to me from an unrelated Patreon subscription I have, but also because this meant I also had access to the open beta. Sadly, once I started playing, you could have honestly convinced me that I was playing Modern Warfare II from 2009. In the 14 years since Modern Warfare II, it seems like there has been nearly no change to the multiplayer formula and this has led the games to become bland, boring and repetitive.

Call of Duty MW III

Now I’m not a big Call of Duty fan (can you tell?) so I’m no expert on the games, but I have played them before so I can confidently tell you that this game has done nothing to innovate the multiplayer aspect of the game. I don’t think the game needs to make sweeping changes to the gameplay but it could definitely do with some change because at the moment it feels like a reskin of every other Call of Duty, including their F2P version Warzone, with the price tag of £59.99 for the standard edition.

I’ll admit there were times when I found myself enjoying the game but those times were few and far between. The game got off to a bad start by forcing me to download Modern Warfare II Warzone, all unwanted 70GB of it, so that left a sour taste in my mouth which only got worse when it forced me to watch the in-game cinematic followed by showing me the entire battle pass and where to buy it… le sigh!

The visuals of the game were also rather bland and boring everything seemed to have a huge brown filter on it. I imagine so they can tell us how good the graphics of the game are…

The game may provide some fun for a group of friends to mess around on for a bit but I wouldn’t recommend getting the game for its multiplayer. as there are a bunch of other CoD games that do it better, or at least, the same. There may be some hope for the zombies and campaign but to me, it feels like they are banking on the popularity of the old Modern Warfare campaign.

Performance

The game ran surprisingly well and I encountered no bugs or crashes which came as a shock, maybe it was because I was playing towards the end of the open beta instead of the very start where everyone was clawing their way into the game.

The game was running perfectly fine at max graphics on my 240HZ Full HD monitor, but couldn’t get to 240 FPS and stayed at around 168FPS, which is not bad to be fair, and 240 may seem like a big ask. However, this game is asking for £59.99 so maybe more would be nice. But there were no gameplay issues which is good. I’m running an RTX 4090 AND Ryzen 7 5800X Processor though, so performance should not be an issue on this hardware anyway and it wasn’t. Weirdly I don’t think I had a single stutter or lag spike which was rather shocking too.

Where to Play

Modern Warfare III is set to launch on 10th November 2023 you can get it here on Steam, here on the COD official page and here on the Microsoft store. You can get the game for £59.99 for the standard or £85.99 for the vault edition. Personally, I would wait until the game comes to games pass which it should in the future you can hear more about that here.
