Can You Beat This? Mum Plays CIV 3 For 16,000 Hours!

I’ve put some serious hours into gaming throughout my life, but I think my biggest record has to be Elder Scrolls Online, which I’ve played for over 8000 hours, largely thanks to the isolation brought on by Lockdown, which gave me a lot of spare time to play more games.

But certainly, Civilization ranks in my top five longest-played games, albeit that’s the whole franchise, not just any one particular entry in the series. The phrase “Just one more turn” certainly rings true, and trying not to get nuked by Ghandi has resulted in many late nights.

However, a mum has recently gone viral for her truly heroic play time in Civilisation 3, having clocked an impressive 16,000 hours in-game, leading the game designer to say that she’s played the game significantly longer than he ever spent making it!

That’s a seriously huge amount of time though, clocking over two years of playtime in a single strategy game. 16,395.4 hours, and I suspect that time is still climbing.

The original post on Twitter reads “My mom has played 16,395.4 hours of Civ 3.” and blew up shortly after, with even the official Civilization account thanking her for being so dedicated.

My favourite reply, however, comes from the game developer, saying “for reference, I spent 6.480 hours making Civ 3,” and frankly, that’s a lot of hours, but she’s definitely got the lead on him there.
