Canon’s First 4K Mirrorless Camera
Canon is finally changing their tune and releasing a mirrorless camera that is market-competitive. Their new M50 mirrorless may be for entry-level users but it now even boasts 4K video capability. That is true 4K recording without an asterisk. In fact, Canon uploaded the following simple video demonstration on their YouTube channel as proof:
Like the previously launched M5, the M50 has interchangeable lenses but it is a lot more capable. That is despite having a slightly smaller 24.1-megapixel APS-C sensor compared to the M5’s 24.2-megapixel sensor. Thanks to the Canon’s latest DIGIC 8 image processing, the M50 takes better photos and videos than its predecessor.
This sensor and image processor combo allows the camera to take up to 10 photos per second (RAW or JPEG). In terms of video it is capable of recording 4K video at 24 frames per second, 1080p video at 60fps, and 720p video at 120fps. Canon even added a swivel screen to make video shooting much more convenient. The M5’s screen in comparison only flipped up or down up to 180 degrees. The new swivel screen now makes it a much more versatile camera for travel.
They have also upgraded the auto-focus with the M50, now boasting up to 143 compared to the M5’s 49. Some lenses will be limited to only 99, however this is still a lot better than the M5.
