Capcom Re-releasing Street Fighter II for SNES

Capcom Re-releasing Street Fighter II for SNES

To celebrate the series’ 30th Anniversary, Capcom and iam8bit is re-releasing beat ‘em up classic Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo. In fact, they’re giving us two new limited edition, retro SNES cartridges. Indeed, the box includes a reprinted original instruction booklet and “retro in-pack surprises”. However, the cartridges will be limited to 5,500 units and come in two variants: “Opaque Ryu Red” and “Translucent Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green.” The latter is limited to just 1,000 units, but distribution of the pair will be random. Though, sadly, the cartridge is NTSC only.

A Capcom and iam8bit Collaboration

The retro re-release comes courtesy of a collaboration between Capcom and iam8bit. iam8bit says:

“As a Street Fighter 30th Anniversary surprise, Capcom & iam8bit fistbumped to create this ultra premium throwback relic – a brand-new, freshly manufactured limited edition of Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo Entertainment System compatible hardware. Featuring one of two colored cartridges, each housing the original game code and fully playable on NTSC consoles – but that’s just the beginning!

The “Legacy Cartridge Collection” embodies retro-inspired luxury, amplifying the core SNES box design with a glistening foil sheen, delicately embossed texture, chic spot varnish and an innovative tri-fold cover that opens to reveal bonus vintage art. Inside, we’re keeping it old-school by restoring the contents of the original instruction booklet, complete with a new archival cover print + secret pack-ins (to be revealed when you crack that shrink-wrap seal).”

In addition, iam8bit reveals its intention to release future “Legacy Cartridge Collection” games.
