Capcom Removes Erotica Feature in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Capcom Removes Erotica Feature in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Capcom’s upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will no longer reward (thanks VGC) players for taking inappropriate photos of women, a decision that reflects the company’s effort to modernize the game for today’s audience.

The original Dead Rising, released in 2006, featured a system where players could earn “Erotica” points for taking photos of women’s revealing clothing, such as upskirt shots. These points contributed to the game’s progression system, where players leveled up the protagonist, Frank West, by capturing various types of photos.

Erotica Points Removed

The decision to remove the “Erotica” category aligns with a broader trend in the gaming industry toward greater inclusivity and sensitivity. As gaming culture has evolved, content that was once considered acceptable is now recognized as problematic. The remaster, scheduled for release on September 19, will feature updated graphics, improved controls, and new quality-of-life features, all while shedding outdated elements that no longer resonate with today’s players.

Capcom has not provided a detailed explanation for this change, likely because the reasons are clear: societal standards have shifted significantly in the nearly two decades since the original game’s release.

The removal of this feature is seen as a positive step by the gaming community, which appreciates Capcom’s responsiveness to modern values.
