Capcom Rules Out Nintendo Switch for Monster Hunter Wilds Due to Hardware Limitations

Monster Hunter Wilds, a highlight of the 2023 Game Awards, will not release on the Nintendo Switch. Capcom cites hardware limitations as the main reason. The game, set to launch in 2025, may still come to the rumored Switch 2.

Hardware Limitations

Capcom explained their decision in a Q&A at their 45th General Meeting of Shareholders. They stated, “The platforms capable of realizing that concept are currently the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.” This reflects the growing gap between the Switch and more powerful consoles.

Monster Hunter Wilds features vast, evolving environments. These demand more power than the Switch can offer. The game needs advanced hardware for its detailed settings and complex AI. The Switch, though popular, lacks the necessary capabilities.

There is hope for a future release on Switch 2. This new console, expected to offer PS4-Pro-like performance, might handle the game with some adjustments. Fans remain optimistic about this possibility.

Monster Hunter: World sold over 23 million copies. The upcoming title aims to build on this success and introduce new energy into the series.

Other franchises have also struggled with Switch ports due to technical limitations. For instance, the Mortal Kombat 1 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Switch port faced significant challenges. The Switch excels in its unique games but often falls short with high-demand titles.
