Car Insurance. It’s one of those bills that manage to keep the majority of us poor, particularly if, like me, you pay it in one fell swoop. While entering all your information, and being honest to the point of costing you more, while necessary, the price can often be very aggravating.
It’s often incredible with insurance how such minor things can make a big difference. For example, did you know that your job title might be costing you more? many price comparison websites suggest that seeking an alternative job title might save you a little bit on your premium. This is particularly helpful when your job has various roles and duties.
Out of all of those things, however, the one thing I would not have thought that would have affected your premium is your e-mail address.
For the Insurer Admiral, a report via The Sun would seem to suggest that customers in the UK with a Hotmail e-mail address might just be paying a premium for that.
The research was conducted over three of the UK’s major price comparison website. The comparisons found that an insurance quote could increase by as much as £31.36. This, solely on the basis of having a Hotmail e-mail account.
For such a simple matter, the results seem incredible.
In answer to this Admiral has said: “Certain domain names are associated with more accidents than others.” Based on this, either @hotmail web users are worse drivers or this is the most ridiculous premium criteria ever seen in insurance.
The simplest solution is that if you are worried about being affected by this, create an equally free Gmail account.
Since being revealed, the FCA has launched an investigation into this practice.
