I’m sure you’re all eager to play the latest game from The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077, and while it’s already been a long wait, it seems the game isn’t that close to release yet. The team has said that they’re aiming for a release in 2018, or at least before 2019, but as we all know with game development, these things can change over time.
What’s interesting, is that the team is planning to release two RPGs between 2016 and 2021, with Cyberpunk 2077 being the first one, and they won’t be working on the second one at all until they wrap up Cyberpunk 2077. This is interesting, as it could mean they’re leaving themselves with the option to make a second Cyberpunk, a new Witcher or perhaps a new IP for the second game, dependant on the success of the Cyberpunk. With the company only wanting to focus on their own titles, releases are going to be 3-4 years apart, but so far they’ve been well worth the wait.
“At this moment we have no plans to publish third-party titles,” say CD Projekt. “Our reputation, as a company that self-publishes its own games, is closely tied to the quality of our titles, that we can only vouch for when we’re the ones who produce them.
“We’re going to concentrate on what we do best, which in CD Projekt Red’s case is making the best games in the world, which will steal hearts of millions of players around the world. According to our strategy, our goal is to also expand our brands to other media and products.”
