CD Projekt Red is announcing that they will be delaying Thronebreaker until 2018. Thronebreaker is the upcoming single-player story campaign for Gwent, the collectible card game spin-off of The Witcher. The announcement comes directly from Marcin Iwinski, co-founder of CD Projekt Red, explaining the cause of the delay in a blog post. According to Iwinski, Gwent Thronebreaker’s campaign scope is getting an increase which is why they need more time. Moreover, he adds that shifting release windows is always something they approach seriously. However in this case, he belives that they will be able to offer a far better game as a result. He is personally issuing an apology for those hoping for a holiday 2017 release.
2018 will also see Gwent moving out of beta with CD Projekt Red promising an increase with the tempo of multiplayer update releases. Expect content additions like cards, challenges, vanity items, but also game patches, and balance tweaks to be published more frequently.
Considering reputation with fans is highly important for the company, the delay is understandable. Additional patches and balances are also something that many fans are asking for, so it is a fair trade. They are also working on a new game mode for the game.
