I think it’s fair to say that under normal circumstances Cyberpunk 2077 would’ve probably already long had some tangible DLC released by now. That fact is, however, that Cyberpunk 2077 has unfortunately been anything but normal since it plopped onto the market in December 2020. – It was in such a poor state that the last near two years have pretty much exclusively been taken up by CD Projekt Red attempting to, you know, fix the game. Well, yes, some DLC has been released. This has, however, remained pretty much entirely in the remits of cosmetics.
Following an official announcement, however, CDPR has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is officially getting its first expansion DLC with the unveiling of ‘Phantom Liberty’.
Now, just to address one point, the trailer above is pretty much all that has been revealed about this new DLC. – In other words, with very few specific details provided, this is a case of what you see is what you get. Based upon this, however, it is known that Keanu Reaves is back in the role of Johnny Silverhand and that characters from the main game’s storyline will be making a return.
So, without wishing to provide you with any horrific spoilers (albeit, I think it is a little unavoidable, so skip to the next paragraph if you’re attempting to keep out of the loop) it would appear that this DLC is going to be set or placed before the ending of Cyberpunk 2077 and may even potentially form some kind of prequel.
Sadly though, while this long-awaited DLC has been confirmed, the best CDPR will give us in terms of a release date is an exceptionally loose ‘2023’. Given the somewhat chequered history they had with delays on the original title, however, we probably think this is for the best!
