Rumour has it that AMD’s next generation of accelerated processing units will be based on an entirely new physical socket known as FM2. The FM2 socket will obviously require new motherboards and not be backwards compatible with FM1, it will also required a chipset and we are hearing that the new chipset will be A85. Apparently, a representative from the motherboard industry has stated that FM2 motherboards will be arriving in June and since there is no backward compatibility we expect the processors to arrive then as well. It makes no sense for AMD to launch a board before there are any processors that can be used in it so we expect Trinity will debut alongside the A85 FM2 motherboards. Not much is known about the A85, except that with the USB-IF certification, it could incorporate native USB 3.0 controllers.
