CEMU, the Wii-U emulator has come a long way in the last year. Being released for some time now, I do not think it unfair to say that until within the last 6 months, the emulator had been a little clunky. Recent major improvements, however, have seen it become vastly better than it was.
Such improvements have seen a number of videos emerge of Zelda: Breath of the Wild being played in 4k resolution at 60fps and in fairness, it was exactly for this reason that CEMU was created. When you consider that even the Nintendo Switch cannot handle 4k, let alone at 60fps, a growing number of people feel that Nintendo regularly miss a trick by not marketing towards the PC market.
Personally, I agree with them. Nintendo should look towards PC gaming.
The irony is that CEMU, despite creating piracy of sorts (yes, yes, I won’t get into that debate here), does have a valid point. It wants to show Nintendo what it could achieve if it decided to give PC platforming some consideration.
Nintendo games are renounced for their fun and vibrancy. What CEMU intends to do is continually poke Nintendo in the ribs to remind them of what could be.
The latest version, 1.11.3 finally crosses a major hurdle that the emulator had, multi-core support. Until now, the emulator has been restricted to single core performance. This has, for many, proven to a major stumbling block for smooth gameplay.
With 1.11.3 currently only available to Patreon supporters, traditionally they make it available to the public within a week or 2 on their official website.
This multi-core addition, however, along with some other improvements may prove to be the breakthrough CEMU needed to bring the emulator to a much wider audience.
Avoiding the whole issue of piracy, we at least applaud this significant step forward for the team.
