How would you like a job assembling Lego? More so, doing it and actually making a decent living from it? For many who enjoy Lego builds that represents the dream. It, unfortunately, isn’t very easy to achieve. Hence why the UK only has one certified professional Lego builder in Duncan Titmarsh. I am, however, slightly disappointed that he doesn’t refer to himself as a ‘master builder’.
Duncan Titmarsh is indeed, the UK’s only certified professional Lego builder and his company, Bright Bricks constructs 600-700 projects a year.
His creations are generally large-scale art pieces, therefore, although I’m sure he could help you with your Millenium Falcon (since there is a new one out) I doubt if you posted him the box he’d do it for you. At least, not for free.
As you can see in the pictures, the creations from Bright Bricks are pretty amazing. We should, however, make something a little clear. He doesn’t do this individually, Duncan Titmarsh has managed to build a full-blown Lego building factory, employing 24 people solely for the purpose of creating sculptures.
Well, initially it was all a hobby. Duncan, however, managed to start selling his larger creating and was eventually picked up by larger companies. In 2010 Duncan was officially certified by Lego and the rest, as they say, is history.
The largest project Bright Bricks has undertaken to date is a model of Tower Bridge for Land Rover. The model used 5.8 million bricks and took 25 people 6 months to build. In addition, it weighed 5.5 tons and was circa 40m long and tall.
We at eTeknix are big fans of Lego. In addition to the Millenium Falcon above, we also loved the recent Saturn 5 rocket model.
You might, at this point, be asking if he’s hiring, well, his website doesn’t appear to suggest that he is. Bright Bricks does, however, take and consider private commissions. Therefore if you would like to have yourself immortalised in Lego, just check out his website.
