Charles Martinet Given World Record
Charles Martinet is probably one of the best-known voice actors in the gaming. If you don’t know him by name, you certainly know him by Mario. Yes, since 1992 he has been the sole video gaming voice for the worlds most famous plumber (and former carpenter). With the recent release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate though, he has hit something of a milestone with the character.
Namely, that the release has been his 100th performance as Mario. As such, the Guinness World Records have acknowledged this by awarding him his award!
Voice Credits
Although he is most recognised as the voice of Mario, his credits go well beyond that. They include;
- Mario
- Luigi
- Wario/Waluigi
- Baby Mario/Luigi
- Paarthurnax (from Skyrim)
- Referee (Super Punch Out – Arcade)
- Orvus (Ratchett and Clank)
It is, however, fair to say that the vast majority of his work has been for Nintendo and Mario. With 100 appearances, he clearly must love what he does! Can you blame him?

Waa-Hoo!
At 63-years of age, he gives no indication that he plans to retire from the role any time soon. As such, we can surely expect this record to grow in the coming years as Nintendo release more and more games based (or with) their trademark character. You may, however, want to give him a little celebratory ‘woo! wah! waa-hooooooo!’
