Cheap PC’s And Super Low Price Broadband Could Help UK Get Better Connected

There have been many small schemes here in the UK and of course around the world that deal in cheap, refurbished computers that can help people get a computer quickly and easily without having to save hundreds of pounds and while typically I wouldn’t expect these to be big gaming rigs, they’re goal is to be enough to get people online and that doesn’t take a lot in terms of performance.
Get Online @ Home will launches today here in the UK and will sell refurbished computers for just £24 and broadband for only £2.99 a month in a bid to help get the 10.8 million people in UK households who are losing out economically because the have no access to the internet, something that could be about to change very quickly.
It is said that around 16 million people her ein the UK don’t have basic internet skills and without access to a computer they’re never going to get those skills. This includes adults and children who are in school who could use the internet to better their education. Of course that is wishful thinking and the UK traffic rate on Facebook and Youtube could be about to go up more than say… Wikipedia, but that shouldn’t detract from the good intentions of the new service.
With many jobs having online only applications, more Government services being moved online and a very real fear that disadvantaged members of society could fall even further behind.
The scheme for those on eligible benefits and includes Windows 7 Pro with Microsoft Office Basic which would normally cost around £150 at retail. The service isn’t just restricted to those on benefits of course and while the cheaper deal is only available to those with elegable benefits, this not on those benefits can still get a refurbished computer for £74 and the same broadband deal of £2.99. There will also be a laptop available for £104.
Baroness Lane-Fox, who established Go ON UK, said: “With the cost of internet access cited as a key reason for not being online, this is an incredible saving and will transform the lives of everyone that hasn’t been able to get online before.” “With so much online now, from paying bills and banking to job applications, connecting with people and getting the very best deals, being online is no longer a nice to have, it is an essential.”
