Cheaper ASUS Rog Ally With Non-Extreme Variant Spotted

We’ve slowly been seeing more and more information about the ASUS ROG ALLY and recently we saw a shipping manifest that revealed the 7840U APU the console is set to feature, though one other thing was spotted and that was the existence of two variants of the console with an RC71L product code and an RC71X product code and now that possible second variant has been revealed.

ASUS ROG ALLY Non-Extreme Variant

A leak from GeekBench (via VideoCardz) has been shared which reveals a variant of the ROG Ally that instead of an 8C/16T APU uses a less powerful 6C/12T APU. The Custom APU, which has been named “Z1”, appears to feature a lower clock speed of around 100-200 MHz when compared to its 8 Core “Z1 Extreme” counterpart. Another change noticed is that the Z1 features only 2 compute units for the in-built graphics whilst the Z1 Extreme features 6 which is likely to have a noticeable impact on performance.

Cheaper ROG Ally Option?

So far we are aware of a price of around $680 so the next question is whether this price we know is going to be for this lesser variant and we should expect a higher price for the Z1 Extreme or, are we going to see a lower price for this lesser Z1 variant. If I was to hazard a guess I’d assume the Z1 is the price we have seen and the extreme variant is going to see a higher price which may change how well this console is viewed as it’s likely the performance claims we’ve seen so far are based on the Z1 Extreme model.

What do you think of this lesser variant? Let us know in the comments.
