Chieftec Polaris 850W Power Supply Review

Fan Speed

As noted earlier in this review, although the Chieftec Polaris does not come with any manual hybrid fan control function, we suspected that this was built into the design. This is simply born from the fact that many other manufacturers are now making this the new ‘standard’ within ‘hybrid’ modes being replaced with integrated technology. Of course, the chief benefit of this is that the fan only runs when necessary, which both reduces power consumption and lowers the noise output.

So, is this the case with the Chieftec Polaris? Well, if our results are anything to go by, then yes. Below 50% load, the fan didn’t run, meaning that it seemed perfectly happy operating in a passive cooling state. Beyond this point, though, with the fan only hitting a maximum speed of around 800 RPM, it isn’t noisy. Overall, it shouldn’t provide any acoustic levels detectable beyond anything else provided within a PC system.
