How Much Does it Cost?

Although pending formal confirmation, our understanding is that the Chieftec Polaris 850W power supply will retail for a price in the region of £89.99-£99.99. As such, in terms of outlay, this isn’t overly inexpensive, especially when you consider exactly what you’re getting for that money, including a 2-year warranty. Offering high efficiency, excellent performance and functionality, you can easily consider this an investment that could last you many years and system builds to come.

Performance

We get the distinct impression that the Chieftec Polaris series is being angled towards the high-end PC gamer. However, in terms of what it offers, it practically has everything the savvy PSU consumer should be looking for and, as clearly shown in our tests, it doesn’t just talk a good game, but it performs it too.

Practicality & Functionality

When it comes to power supplies, one of the biggest features of practicality and functionality is seen in just how easy it will be to install and live with. This isn’t either on just one single build, but also the potential for it to continue usage through several systems to come. With its fully modular cable design, you only have to install what’s necessary, as well as the lengths being exceptionally generous; this offers everything you could want with the added perk that good cable management with this should be an absolute doddle.

Should I Buy One?

If there is one thing we hate at eTeknix, it’s people who put together amazingly potent PC builds and then go for the absolutely cheapest power supply they can find. Make no bones about it, a good power supply is every bit as important as a good graphics card. Unlike a graphics card, though, a good power supply should easily be able to last you many years after the graphics card has been outdated or upgraded.

The Chieftec Polaris is a good power supply offering all of the features and functionality a good consumer should be looking for. Admittedly, with the price point it comes at, it awkwardly finds itself right in the middle of the pack compared to alternative options available. However, presuming you are reading this because you want to know if this is worth buying, then the answer from us is a categorical yes. The Chieftec Polaris ticks all the right boxes you should have and, based on the build quality, should happily last you many builds and upgrades to come!
