Chieftec Stallion 3 GP-03B-OP ATX Case Review

Exterior

The Stallion is fairly huge, albeit, since it supports E-ATX motherboards, its size is hardly surprising. It clocks in at 572mm x 210mm x 520mm, and it’s around 11KG, so not a giant, but still a sizable lump nonetheless. There’s a large tempered glass window on the left side, and it’s flush-mounted with no side screws, giving it a very clean look overall.

The front panel is really nice, with a plastic surround that has an interesting angular design, and a larger mesh section dominating the face. Of course, that mesh is going to give you a lot of airflow to the front fans that sit behind it but also integrates the main dust filter too. It looks good now, but sit tight, it’ll look better with the RGB on later in the review.

The mesh and be opened out, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance of the filter and the front fans.

The front I/O panel is angled slightly back, making everything nice and easy to see, especially when the case is on the floor and under your desk. There’s a pair of USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, HD audio jacks, and master power controls. Interestingly, there are extra buttons for changing the RGB colour/mode and reaction speed, which is pretty interesting. There’s also a strip of RGB above and below it, but again, it’ll make more sense when I power it up later on.

Down the right side, there’s a solid steel panel, which is flush-mounted just like the glass on the other side, giving it a very sleek appearance overall.

Around the back, it’s business as usual, with everything where you would expect from an ATX setup. There’s a 120mm fan mount at the top, with a 120mm fan pre-installed. Below that, you’ll find seven expansion slots and some additional ventilation, and there’s an ATX PSU mount at the bottom.

The PSU mount has a dust filter of its own, which can be slid out from the rear for cleaning.

However, if you look under the case, you can see a secondary clip-in mesh filter providing airflow to some base mounted ventilation and a fan mount.

There’s an additional fan mount up on the top, with a removable mesh filter. Also, there’s a textured space towards the front, which I love, as it’s perfect for leaving my glasses, wallet, phone, headphones, hat, batteries and Xbox controller in a big messy heap, and honestly, I’m grateful for the extra dumping space.

Lift it up, and you’ll find room for 2 x 120mm fans or similarly sized radiators.
