Being that this is a triple-fan kit, the packaging is nice and compact with the front giving you a nice clear visual representation of what you can expect from the product. You are shown all three fans operating, with the ARGB lighting effects in action, as well as being provided with some of the features (in brief) and the motherboard sync compatibility list.
Similar to the front, the rear of the packaging continues it’s excellent layout with all of the key features, specifications, and packaging contents all presented in a clear and concise manner. Put simply, despite the limited space available, Chieftec has done an excellent job in ensuring that the Tornado’s packaging tells you everything you could want to know in an very easy on the eye manner.
Out of the packaging, the fans present themselves well. As noted above, this is a triple-fan kit and, as such, you are provided with three fans (sorry if that’s a bit obvious). Coming in black with off-white trim to the fan blades, they both look and feel of an excellent quality.
The fan blades have a slightly rippled effect on the edges which should play a significant role in how the ARGB lighting presents itself. In addition, with inserts to all 4 sides being left open, the visual effects also expand to this area meaning that, in terms of presentation, the ARGB is allowed to shine at its fullest potential.
The fans come with noise-dampening padding to each corner which should help reduce the overall acoustic output and eliminate any potential nasty vibrations. In addition, to the center, you also will find the Chieftec logo.
A look at the rear of the fan confirms this to be, very specifically, a Chieftec 12024-SLC design. The information provided here confirms that it is a brushless design which should also play a significant factor in ensuring that when these fans are operational, noise levels should be minimal.
As this is an ARGB fan kit, although you are not mobbed with accessories, there are still clearly more than a few parts necessary to get these successfully installed onto your system. Let us, therefore, take a closer look at what you get inside your Chieftec Tornado!
Starting with some of the more mundane aspects, you are provided with a full set of short screws that are generally used for fitting the fans in direct contact with the PC case. It is a little disappointing, however, that you are not given the longer screw attachments that would make installation to, for example, an AIO radiator or front PC chassis intake more straight forward.
On the plus side, however, you are provided with all the cabling necessary to attach to the fans and setup your hub controller.
Chieftec provides you with a high-quality product manual and, although we will look at it in closer detail later in the review, we can confirm that this should be an excellent resource if you’re having a little difficulty figuring out how to install your Chieftec Tornado fans. Hooking up ARGB isn’t overly difficult, but when multiple cables generally involved, it’s nice to have a little help along the way.
Although you are able to directly connect these fans to your ARGB sync compatible motherboard, Chieftec does provide you with a good quality hub controller and, put simply, utilizing this, regardless of your motherboard, is highly recommended.
This controller allows for a limited manual fan control functionality as well as providing the ‘base’ for all cabling to direct towards.
Being magnetically backed (with a surprisingly powerful magnet) fitting this within your chassis should be a very straight forward process. Keep reading though, as this hub controller does have a pretty significant added bonus.
While the hub controller does allow for (again, limited) manual push-button functionality for the RGB lighting effects and speed control, Chieftec also provides you with a remote control. Through this, you can apply a pretty significant number of different effects to your fans which not only includes cycling through the lighting patterns but also for adjusting the fans speed.
The remote control itself both looks and feels of excellent quality.
