Chinese Moore Threads have caught a strong bit of attention from PC enthusiasts, mostly due to the prospect of more competition in the GPU industry which is sorely needed. Now admittedly the competition is virtually non-existent against the market leaders AMD, NVIDIA and even Intel, but it’s something to keep an eye on. What most people are focusing on is The S80 and S70 gaming focused cards, but Moore Threads do have some other business and workstation focused cards including the S50, S10 and today’s topic, the S30.
Now I know business graphics cards aren’t all that interesting, but it is still the foundation of Moore Threads future in the industry. As reported by VideoCardz, the MTT S30 has recently been given support within the latest community driver despite the card being announced several months ago. Evident from its specs and photos (courtesy of VGA Museum), this card is designed to provide just the basics of a graphics card.
It’s specs include 4GB of VRAM, 1024 MUSA cores, 1.3 GHz frequency, 40W TGP and two display outputs including VGA and 4K HDMI. It’s nothing to scream about, but it does what it needs to, providing a display output for an office system that may or may not still rely on VGA.
Moore Threads is growing, not quite at the rate of Intel’s first foray into GPUs, but enough for us to get interested. Just the other week we saw some graphs showing how these GPUs had improved over time from struggling against the GT 1030 to just about close to the 1050 Ti based on the Fire Strike results. It’s a small gain but it’s gains nonetheless.
