Chinese Moore Threads GPUs Receive Doubled Performance In Driver Updates

Back in 2022, the Chinese manufacturer Moore Threads made its entry into the GPU market which was a pretty major thing for both China and the GPU market as a whole. Now these cards, the S70 and S80, don’t really offer much of a threat as their performance is far from up to scratch with the latest from NVIDIA, AMD and even Intel, recently though, the company has made some big steps in improving these cards.
Moore Threads Improvements
A video was shared by EJ Hardware (Via VideoCardz) which throws the two GPUs from Moore Threads under some benchmarks to demonstrate the performance improvements from updated drivers. Now just to establish some form of context, the highest end model, the S80, was found to struggle against even the GT 1030 which uses 30W whilst the S80 consumes as much as 250. Through a year of driver updates, these GPUs have seen strong improvements in some cases doubling their performance.
In the above 1080p benchmarks, we can see that from driver version 211.30 and the most recent 240.50, the S80 effectively doubles its FPS in several situations. On the synthetic benchmarks with 3D Mark Fire Strike, the score increases by a hefty amount as well with more than double the score with Fire Strike and Fire Strike Extreme.
This is of course great news for gamers in China as they have a fourth GPU option which is improving well over time similarly to Intel Arc. These GPUs are also quite cheap with the MTT S80 priced at 1499 RMB ($200 US) and the MTT S70 priced at 949 RMB ($130 US). You can watch the full video below though it is in Chinese.
