Chrome’s Upcoming Update Aims to Reduce RAM Usage

Google Chrome is undoubtedly one of the fastest browsers available right now, which is why it is also one of the most popular. However, it’s a well-known fact that Chrome can be quite demanding on our systems, particularly when it comes to RAM, which is why its creators have spent a lot of time and resources in order to make it lighter. These efforts materialized into patches, and the upcoming Chrome 55 will actually incorporate an improved JavaScript engine that will minimize the browser’s system memory use. The improvements should be noticeable immediately, as numerous websites rely on JavaScript, and Google’s representatives have stated that Chrome 55 actually used 50 percent less RAM on average when compared to Chrome 53 in testing.

The finished version of the update will become available on December 6, which means that we still have to wait quite a bit before we’ll be able to install it on our systems. However, as long as you’re willing to run pre-release code on your rig, you’ll probably be able to try it out sooner than that. You’ll likely notice significant improvements if your system is already quite low on RAM, or if you’re actively trying to run Chrome alongside other apps at the same time.
