Cisco rumoured to hire Barclays to sell Linksys Division

Cisco Systems, one of the largest networking hardware manufacturer have hired Barclays to find a buyer for Linksys. According to Bloomberg, it may attract TV set makers looking out for a recognized brand and technology but it will most likely be less than $500 Million; an amount that Cisco paid in 2003 to get into consumer business with low margins.

Cisco also operates a set-top-box unit business and also downs NDS group for $5 Billion which is a software maker for paid TV channels for British Sky Broadcasting Group, Canal Plus and DirecTV. Barclays also advised Google, Inc to sell Motorola Home business which also sells set-top boxes and equipments for cable TV providers.
