Cities Skylines 2 CEO Claims Community Is Too Toxic

Gamers have a bit of a history with toxicity especially during “the old MW2 lobbies” hurling slurs left right and centre. Whilst it can be hilarious watching people throw a strop over some games, it can ruin the experience and overall community. One such community is for Cities Skylines 2 which following its rough launch, has been receiving a battering from it’s players urging its CEO to speak on the matter of toxicity.
Cities Skylines 2 is Too Toxic
Yesterday CO Word of the Week #8 was published from Colossal Order’s CEO, Mariina Hallikainen noting that the developers “have seen a growing tendency of toxicity in our community, something we have not experienced in this extent before.” The claim is this toxicity towards both developers and other community members will really hurt the community as a whole reducing engagement, happiness and could discourage modding and creativity.
To reduce the levels of toxicity a few reminders were shared about how to engage with others online and how to share feedback without being a pillock.
- Give feedback and disagree, but do it constructively! Be specific and detailed, and don’t worry about what others think. We have a diverse community so opinions and experiences will always vary.
- Assume people mean well and remember that tone can be hard to convey in writing.
- Help us make the community a nice place for everyone by showing your fellow mayors how to give constructive feedback.
- Always be kind 🙂
Now I 100% get the anger of a £41.99 game being released in the state that it was, I was quite disappointed myself but only spent £7.99 on game pass so I wasn’t burned and mostly enjoyed the experience. But none of that excuses attacking developers who were most likely, based on other games, being pushed to launch the game before it was ready by publishers Paradox Interactive. If you desperately need to vent your hate somewhere, try some Blade and Sorcery it’s a miracle worker I tell you.
Also mentioned in the word of the week is more information on the mod editor. The team claims that the Editor UI is expected to be ready for a closed beta in a few weeks, though there is still an issue with asset import which if not resolved in time, will simply lead to the editor launching without the ability to import custom assets until it is ready. The delayed console version of the game will also feature the editor which is good news for console fans, though still no concrete information on an actual launch.
