Cities Skylines 2 Editor Early Access Sign Ups Now Open

I’ve already racked up around 200 hours on Cities Skylines 2, frankly, it’s amazing I’ve gotten any work done reacently… It’s a big upgrade from the old version, but it’s not without its quirks and problems either. The biggest issue for me has to be the rather uninspiring and limited maps. Of course, I suspect new ones will be added in the futures, but for now… meh.

There are some mods aleady porting in custom maps, which fix the limits resources, so you can build more dynamically and creatively, as well as dealing with the surprisingly restrictive terrain that trips up a lot of newer players, as the landscaping tools can be a minefield of errors that makes your cities look pretty crap if you’re not experienced.

Cities Skylines 2

Thankfully, the Cities Skylines 2 editor will land in early in 2024, as Colossal Order confirmed that early access sign ups for CS2 suite are now live.

The official editor will allow for great customisation and honestly, I can’t wait, as we’ll be off to the races for some really crative cities designs. However, Colossal Order has warned that any exisiting mods will likely be broken by the update, but that’s quite often the case anyway.

What’s great is that Paradox and CO are already inviting players to test the new features ahead of its full launch. There will be one bigger patch before the end of year, laying the groudwork for the 2024 update. Either way, despite a rocky launch, the game in well on its way to being pretty damn fantastic right now.

While there are a range of mods already that fix most issues, it’s good to see official support. Plus, mods will then just take the official stuff and push it even further, which should be fun to see.

What Colossal Order Had to Say

“Cities Skylines 2’s release build included an unfinished version of the editor and it didn’t take long for it to be found,” Colossal Order says. “The modders took almost no time to figure out how they could create maps and started to advance the editor tools to their liking.
