Classic Yahoo Messenger to be Terminated This Year

yahoo messenger

In the day of electronic communications, we’ve seen our messages change from a telephone call to text on your phone and now you can send images and documents from your phone without a second thought. First introduced in 1998, Yahoo has had a messaging application for years but it would seem that all comes to an end with Yahoo Messenger ending in August.#

Confirmed in one of their company blog posts, the company stated that they “encourage all of our users to complete their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy platform as of August 5, 2016”.

The app began back in 1998 as Yahoo Pager, revamping over the year to become cross-platform as recently as December alongside a redesign of its looks. The new messenger app can be downloaded via the App Store and Google play, but the company seems to be focused more on its web-based services given its also terminating its personalized widgets in September.

With the legacy of Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Recommends ending this year, the company hopes to provide better support to seven “core” products: Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyles. Given they have a new messenger is already available, are you one of the people who will have to upgrade?
