Earlier this week we saw some leaked pictures of the upcoming Tahiti XT from the Southern Islands series of GPUs straight from AMD’s next-gen of GPU line up. Today, however, we see some “nude” pictures of another GPU from the HD 7900 series. Nothing to do with any ‘NSFW’ material, I’m referring to nude because of the removed cooler, therefore showing the PCB only.
We can now clearly see the 12 memory chips, confirming the 384-bit memory bus as previously thought. We also get the first glimpse at the Tahiti die and as we can see, it is rotated 45 degrees, partially covered by a heatspreader and presents a similar size to the Cayman die while staying smaller than Nvidia’s previous flagships all the same.
The card will most likely come with 1.5 GB GDDR5. We can see the 5+1 phase PWM as well. The card features two CrossFire connectors and the dual BIOS switch introduced with the HD 6900 series.
The difference between this leak and the previous one is the PCIe connectors, this PCB features 2 x6-pin unlike the 8-pin + 6-pin seen previously. This could mean two things, either an advanced production ready simple or the Tahiti Pro (HD 7950) which should feature a lower TDP compared to the Tahiti XT (HD 7970); somewhere between 150W and 225W.
