Club 3D Reveal The R9 270 royalQueen Edition

The recent launches of AMD’s new R7 mid range and R9 enthusiast series show that AMD is top of their game. From R7 240 all the way up to R9 290X, they all set new standards when it comes to that all important price vs performance ratio. One of the most popular cards from the previous generation was the Radeon HD 7850, it was widely awarded for offering great performance and at the same time being energy efficient and affordable. Now it’s successor the new Radeon R9 270 steps up, it not uses the same amount of energy as the HD 7850 but also offers 35% more processing power!

According to Club 3D, their new Club 3D Radeon R9 270 royalQueen is the fastest 150w GPU around! Featuring 1280 stream processors, a clock speed of up to 955 MHz and 2.37 Tflops computing performance. It has 2048 Mb of GDDR5 memory running at an effective speed of 5600 MHz combined with a 256 Bit memory bus. Because the R9 270 is very energy efficient it has only 1x 6 pin power connector. On the output panel you can find one full size DisplayPort, one HDMI and one Dual Link DVI-I connector. By adding a Club 3D MST Hub the Radeon R9 270 is Eyefinity 5 capable.

The Radeon R9 270 supports DirectX 11.2 and OpenGL 4.3 but also fully supports AMD’s own upcoming Mantle API. This new low level API is able to bypass DirectX and allows game developers to program as close as possible to the Graphics Core Next architecture, resulting in true hardware optimization and significantly better performance compared to the DirectX API.

The new AMD line-up is nearly complete. In the past weeks we have seen launches of entry level cards offering best in class value for money all the way up to high end cards offering record breaking performance. But for any system integrator or end user looking to upgrade an older card, the new R9 270 is one of the best choices, offering solid gaming performance while hitting the gamers’ sweet spot in terms of price.
